November 2011
Release
Date: January 27, 2012
The Producer Price Index (PPI) for the
Mining and Quarrying industry moved
from 178.5 in October 2011 to 179.0 in November 2011, showing an increase of
0.3 per cent. This was mainly
influenced by the 0.3 per cent advance in the index for the major group ‘Bauxite
Mining &Alumina Processing’. In November, the index for the
Manufacturing industry recorded an
upward movement of 0.5 per cent.
This resulted mainly from increases of 0.4 per cent and 2.6 per cent for the
major groups ‘Food, Beverages and Tobacco’ and ‘Refined Petroleum Products’
respectively. This was however slightly tempered by the major groups ‘Chemicals
& Chemical Products’ and ‘Other Non-Metallic Mineral Products’ each falling by
0.1 per cent.
Point to Point movements in the PPI, for the
period November 2010 to November 2011,
reflected increases in the index
for the Mining & Quarrying industries of 2.4 per cent, and 9.2 per cent
respectively. The movement in the index for the Manufacturing industry was due
largely to increases of 7.1 per cent and 35.4 per cent for the major groups
‘Food, Beverages & Tobacco’ and ‘Refined Petroleum Products’.
The
2011/2012 fiscal year-to-date (April
2011 to November 2011), the index
for the Mining & Quarrying industry
recorded a decline of 3.3 per cent.
For the same period the Manufacturing industry saw output prices for producers
rising by 2.6 per cent.
